Photography is the process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a sensitive medium, such as a film, or an electronic sensor. That's the technical definition. Photography starts with your mind, eyes and heart. The medium is a conduit through which you communicate mesages visually.

This is what Jamel Shabazz is a master of, seeing beauty in people or things that lack apparent aesthetic appeal. He uses his skills that have been honed over a multi decade period to approach the un-appraochable and capture emotional moments in time.

In his workshops he emparts this wisdom on the minds, eyes and ears of those who have a passion for photography and the motivaton to act it out within society.

Most cities of the world offer a rich diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. For the photojournalist it provides a cornucopia of shooting opportunities. Jamel Shabazz introduces students to the nature of street photography though practice.

You too can join photographer Jamel Shabazz for a unique opportunity to photograph the photojournalistic way as he guides participants through the city streets. Jamel will share his work, review portfolios and discuss project ideas. The first few days will be spent in the field shooting, where students will learn how to choose and gain access to a subject, to be mindful of lighting situations, and to anticipate and capture the “decisive moment” where composition and emotion fill the frame.

In the evenings the group will return to the classroom location for discussion and critique.
